Yes, you heard it absolutely right. The government officials of San Francisco are planning to ban flavored cigarettes, menthol cigarettes, and other tobacco products, which are flavored.

It is said that if this ban gets the highest votes and passed, the ban will be effective from April 2018. San Francisco will probably the first ever city to validate such an extensive ban on the sale of flavored tobacco.

Of course, tobacco products, which fall under the non flavored category, will still be available under this new sweeping law to be passed. Cigars, Smokeless tobacco, shisha, nicotine and all the other products, which have been flavored, will be prohibited right away as soon as the government passes the law. Apart from this, the age of buying tobacco products has been raised to 21 from 18 in California.

This ban will be highly prioritized because of the increased sales of tobacco consumption. The young generation has been considered to be the highest flavored tobacco consumer. The youth love the variety of flavors available in the market; moreover, the menthol flavored tobacco helps smoothens the smoke, cools down, and reduces throat irritation.

According to the Chief Operating Officer of Tobacco Vapor Electronic Cigarette Association, Ray Story, the decision of banning the flavored tobacco is nonsense. He does second that the packaging of some of the cigarettes are done with cartoon characters targeting children is absolutely wrong. However, he also imposes that the smokers to alter from harmful cigarettes usually consume the vaping products used in the e-cigarettes.

If the ban on the purchase of flavored cigarettes gets passed, there is probably no prohibition on its online sales. In fact, what Regina Dick-Endrizzi, the Executive Director of San Francisco’s Office of Small Business, considers that online purchase of flavored cigarettes doesn’t even require ID Cards.

Yes, there are cities who are trying to pass laws on the reduction of the flavored tobacco, but a full ban on this has never been thought of considering its sale rising tall day by day. Since it’s an adult product, if the ban on flavored tobacco products becomes successful, the sale of marijuana will see a good increase and has a high probability of being sold in the form of brownies as well.

According to a research conducted by the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention, it is said that students who belong to both high school and middle school didn’t change their smoking habit since 2011 till 2016. In fact, the introduction of e-cigarettes in the market has put a great impact on its consumption resulting in the increase of its sales to around 900 percent at the same time.

Considering e-cigarettes and the flavored tobacco products, United States has been rated as the highest consumer, especially the young generation, including the school and university goers. Even the President of the American Vaping Association, Gregory Conley says, “Flavors helps smokers quit or reduce smoking by disconnecting them from how tobacco tastes.”
