Trying to remain focused throughout the day is often a difficult task. Too often, we allow ourselves to be distracted in some way leading to us slowly sliding down a particularly slippery slope where distractions seem to flood into our conscious mind. This is something that is annoying, distractive, and is going to easily make you feel depressed just because of your inability to concentrate beyond a certain time period. You clearly understand how that makes life difficult for anybody.
However, it doesn’t have to be like that. Some people actually take supplements (some in patch form) in order to get better focus, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
Instead, research has shown that what we eat can have a profound impact on our ability to focus. It is amazing to consider that our food is capable of doing this, but then it does depend on what you are putting in your mouth as to the results that you should reasonably expect. Thankfully, the research that has been conducted has led to some foods being identified as being better at enhancing your ability to focus than others. Indeed, there are several items that are regarded as being ‘superfoods’ that have been identified as being exceptionally good in this way. In order to show this, we can look at just three such superfoods that you should consider eating on a daily basis to ultimately boost your ability to focus.
1. Chia Seeds.
At first, chia seeds don’t look like much, and you wonder how they can be so beneficial, but a number of studies have indicated that these seeds punch well above their weight.
These seeds are high in Omega-3, which has long been identified as being something that is highly beneficial to your brain. Also, we know that chia seeds are high in various B vitamins, and they have also been shown to provide your brain with additional energy over an extended period of time. In addition, chia seeds have been directly linked to aiding your blood glucose levels, and this in itself is important when it comes to your ability to focus. Indeed, if your glucose levels are under better control, then it has been shown that this directly deals with preventing as much mental fatigue which, in turn, improves concentration levels.
With Omega-3, it has been shown by experts that it is going to be one of the healthiest fats that you can have in your diet. The most important thing is that it creates something known as DHA, and this is going to have a direct impact on the part of your brain that is known to work on memory, creativity, emotion, abstraction, and your ability to pay attention. All of these things can have a profound impact on your ability to focus throughout the day.
Of course, anything else that contains Omega-3 will also be beneficial, but chia seeds are known to be particularly high in this, and with the way in which you can add them to a whole host of foods at various times throughout the day, it makes it easy for you.
You might remember that Popeye got his physical strength from eating spinach, but we now know that it can also contribute to increased strength mentally as well as being beneficial for us in a physical manner.
Spinach is rich in potassium, and this is important because of the way in which it helps to regulate the conductivity levels in your brain. The main thing is it boosts the speed at which information is processed in your brain allowing you to think faster, and more accurately, as the signals are firing back and forth between the neurons in your brain at a greater speed.
In addition, it is high in folate, and this has been linked to effectively healing your memory. The American Journal of Psychiatry has noted how folate is able to reduce the production of certain amino acids in the brain that will then reduce cognitive function.
This is key, because if the thought processes are faster, then it has been shown to increase your ability to focus. By reversing all of this thanks to eating spinach, it means that your brain will be able to effectively heal. It reduces mental fatigue, a sense of confusion, and also forgetfulness. As you can imagine, this will make a real difference to your ability to remain focused throughout the day.
3. Brazil Nuts.
Even though brazil nuts don’t exactly look as if they would amount to much, they are a superfood that is often overlooked by so many people. To be honest, you should look at trying to include them in your diet on a daily basis simply because of the beneficial properties that are associated with them. In addition, you might want to mix some brazil nuts with walnuts as there’s more to walnuts than them just looking as if they are actually part of your brain.
The most important thing with brazil nuts is that they are high in magnesium. This has been shown time and time again to help us in a number of ways. According to Psychology Today, there have been instances where depression has even been elevated by taking magnesium. Furthermore, they state how magnesium has also been shown to reduce anxiety and a sense of being irritable. When you then add in that stress in our body means we burn through magnesium faster leading to an increase in those very things that magnesium can cure.
By increasing the level of magnesium, it stands to reason that even if you are stressed that you will not suffer from the same memory issues.
Even though only three superfoods have been discussed here, there are a number of others that are still capable of helping to enhance your focus and boost concentration levels. Of course, including as many superfoods as possible in your diet will bring with it a number of additional benefits that just should not be overlooked and there is no better time than the present for you to make those changes to what you are putting into your body.
